Technical seminars

The Wadōkai Finland Dan Committee organizes four technical seminars each year (February, May, September, and November), rotating between locations such as Lohja, Joensuu, Mikkeli, Kuopio, and Turku. The seminars are instructed by members of the Dan Committee.

Participants are divided into groups according to their belt level (yellow–orange, green–blue, and brown–black), making the seminars suitable for practitioners of all grades. Training focuses on fundamental techniques and the content outlined in the kyū and dan syllabi. In the more advanced groups, the emphasis is on developing teaching skills and adopting the perspective of a club instructor. In the lower-level groups, the goal is to improve individual technical ability and prepare participants for upcoming gradings.

All Dan Committee technical seminars are marked in red on the Events page.

In addition, special seminars, one-day training camps, and private training sessions can be arranged on request. Information about these events is also available on the Events page.

Courses

The Dan Committee also organizes courses on request, such as grading courses.

The grading course is intended for those involved in their club’s grading process as well as for anyone interested in becoming an examiner. It prepares participants to act as kyū-grade examiners and includes both theoretical and practical components.

Grading course content includes:

  • Kyū and dan syllabi
  • Minimum time requirements and evaluation criteria for each grade
  • Key components of the evaluation process
  • Principles of the Wadō-ryū style
  • Common mistakes observed in gradings
  • The role of the examiner and instructor (preparation, practical arrangements, conducting the examination, evaluation, and follow-up tasks)
